The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) Program through Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) is to prepare bachelor level Registered Nurses who value and strive to be leaders in professional roles and contribute to continuing the growth of the Registered Nurse profession through education and commitment to improving health care of the people and communities we serve. Priorities of the program will include:
Provide the highest quality academic program and experiential teaching by incorporating evidence-based practice and research into all aspects of the curriculum to produce competent health care professionals.
Graduates of the Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree will be prepared to assist physicians and other healthcare providers who practice in the state of Illinois and the surrounding region.
Provide specialized nursing services to the citizens, students (via education), state, region, and country.
The B.S.N. program will have three different tracks and each has their own admission requirements.
The traditional B.S.N. program will be open to incoming freshman who are academically prepared for the upcoming course work. A selective admissions process will be used similar to other programs currently housed in this school.
The RN to B.S.N. degree completion track will be open to any associate degree RN who has the desire to complete their B.S.N. degree and meets the SIU admission criteria.
The Accelerated B.S.N. track is open to students who already have a bachelor’s degree in a different field or those who have approximately 70-80 credit hours completed towards their bachelor’s degree along with the program prerequisite courses. These include: Human Anatomy and Physiology (6 credit hours or more); Psychology; Organic Chemistry (CHEM 140A or equivalent/higher); Microbiology; Nutrition; Medical Terminology; Inferential and Descriptive Statistics; Basic Principles of Nursing (NUR 200); Human Growth and Development (NUR 250).
RN TO B.S.N. DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
The RN to B.S.N. degree completion track will be open to any associate degree RN who has the desire to complete their B.S.N. degree and meets the SIU admission criteria. Courses in this option will be delivered primarily via face-to-face format. The proposed curriculum will fit the “2 plus 2” option for most community college programs or a “3 plus 1” option. Students will earn a minor in Health Care Management (HCM). For students who have earned an Associates in Applied Sciences and Arts degree will be eligible for the Capstone option. The Capstone Option at SIU Carbondale puts you in the fast lane to a bachelor's degree in Capstone-approved majors. The Capstone option offers an abbreviated University Core Curriculum.

Students need to have Transcripts from high school and/or college. At SIU Carbondale, applicants for admission will be eligible for automatic admission if they are on track to complete our course pattern requirements and who meet one of the following criteria: A cumulative high school GPA of 2.75; A ranking in the top 10% of their graduating class.
English Language Requirement: Any one of the following methods will automatically meet the minimum English requirement. Applicants who do not meet the automatic English language admission requirement will undergo a holistic review to determine potential admissibility.
