The USC Upstate Pre-Pharmacy program is an advisement track within the biology and chemistry degree programs. Students can choose to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology or a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, depending on their interests. The program is designed to meet the entrance requirements for the South Carolina College of Pharmacy (SCCP) and the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy (PCSP).
Pharmacy school admission is on a competitive basis. Students must apply to pharmacy programs while enrolled in the Pre-Pharmacy curriculum. Although a bachelor’s degree is not required for admission to most pharmacy schools, students meeting only the minimum prerequisites have a lower rate of acceptance than students completing a degree. Important factors considered by admission committees are grade point averages (GPA), Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) scores and letters of recommendation.
