The curriculum in mathematical sciences promotes understanding of the mathematical sciences and their structures, uses and relationships to other disciplines. This program fosters excellence in mathematical research and offers a strong graduate education that prepares students for stimulating and rewarding employment, development of cross-disciplinary knowledge, and career and lifelong learning opportunities.

Student learning outcomes

Students will develop creative-thinking skills to apply to mathematical problems and proofs.
Students will be able to analyze mathematical arguments and write their own arguments and proofs.
Students will be able to read and interpret mathematical literature, including technical articles, within their chosen mathematical subfield.
Students will be able to use technology, including specialized computational and graphics software, to test the validity of certain conjectures, to solve problems, to conduct mathematical experiments and do mathematical research.

Successful applicants will typically have the following credentials: A baccalaureate degree or its equivalent at the time of enrollment, with an undergraduate GPA of 3.5.

Para estudiantes internacionales

A student applying for admission to the Master of Science program is expected to have at least thirty undergraduate semester credits in the mathematical sciences or closely-related fields with at least eighteen of these credits in upper-level (junior-level or higher) courses.

Students who need to remove deficiencies in their mathematical sciences education can enroll as special students prior to seeking admission to the graduate program, or may ask to be provisionally admitted to the graduate program pending completion of the appropriate courses.

The university minimum TOEFL score requirement is 550 (paper-based) or 80 (Internet-based). The university minimum IELTS score requirement is 6.5. The PTE is also accepted with a minimum score of 65. The deadline for application for the fall semester is March 1 and the deadline for application for the spring semester is October 1.
