Standing out as a multi-faceted finance professional requires the ability to identify new opportunities and improve an organization's economic stability. Through an holistic, experiential approach, the Pepperdine Graziadio MS in Applied Finance (MSAF) prepares students for a finance-related career with an emphasis on practical application. Whether you choose the 12- or 15-month program, you'll build a strong conceptual foundation in areas such as business valuation, equity analysis, financial accounting, and investment banking. As an added bonus, our STEM-designated curriculum identifies key topics and courses that will better prepare you for the Chartered Financial Analyst exam.

Reach even further beyond your masters degree with the option to apply your MS in Applied Finance towards core MBA requirements, allowing you to earn an MBA in as little as 15-months. Through an optional fourth trimester internship practicum, you'll be able to leverage your learning in real-world business situations.

Master of Science in Applied Finance

Unlike other degree programs in finance that concentrate almost exclusively on theoretical concepts, the Graziadio School's MS in Applied Finance takes a more holistic approach to prepare our students for a variety of financial careers. This 12-15 month program features a curriculum that focuses on the application of theory to real-world business needs. In the optional fourth trimester, students may enroll in a 0-unit internship practicum in order to apply their learning and gain additional experience prior to graduation.

The MS in Applied Finance is open to recent college graduates who may or may not have an undergraduate degree in business. The program will give students a solid foundation with the core skills and knowledge needed to launch a career in finance.

Curriculum Tracks

Students may choose from two curriculum tracks:

Curriculum 1: Investments

  • Core Courses (economics, quantitative methods, accounting and finance) - 33 units
  • Career Seminar - 0 units
  • Electives (limited to ACCT, DESC, ECNM and FINC prefix courses) - 8 units
  • Internship Practicum (optional) - 0 units
  • Total Units Required - 41 units

This track emphasizes on skills in such in-demand expertise as business valuation, equity analysis, and investment banking. Additionally, it provides knowledge to prepare you for the Chartered Financial Analyst exam.

Career opportunities include equity analysis, fixed income analysis, and money management.

Curriculum 2: Financial Management

  • Core Courses (economics, quantitative methods, accounting and finance) - 35 units
  • Career Seminar - 0 units
  • Electives (limited to ACCT, DESC, ECNM and FINC prefix courses) - 6 units
  • Internship Practicum (optional) - 0 units
  • Total Units Required - 41 units

This track addresses topics relevant to a career in corporate finance. Required classes include: Strategic Issues in Finance, Capital Markets, Working Capital Management, Mergers and Acquisitions.

Career opportunities include corporate finance, financial planning, and financial institution management.

To be considered eligible for admission to the Full-Time MS program, an applicant must have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited four-year college/university or foreign institution. International academic institutions must be accredited by the ministry of education or accrediting bodies from their respective countries.

Submit one of the following to fulfill the English language proficiency requirement:

  • Academic transcript from an accredited U.S. college/university, reflecting a grade of "C" or better in a college-level English Composition course. ESL and remedial English courses are not accepted.
  • Test scores taken within the past two years from one of the agencies below: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) School Code: 7485 - TOEFL iBT is the only TOEFL test accepted. TOEFL Essentials in not accepted. In most regions, the Educational Testing Service (ETS) is offering an at home testing option for the TOEFL iBT; International English Language Testing System (IELTS); and Pearson Test of English (PTE)
