About Pharmaceutics

Pharmaceutics is a multidisciplinary science that examines the development, production and characterization of dosage forms, as well as the disposition and action of drugs in the body.

As pharmaceutical scientists have been engaged in the development of novel biomaterials for sophisticated drug delivery systems, scientists in this field have expanded into research with applications in the development of medical devices and tissue engineering.

??Graduates of our program are placed throughout the pharmaceutical industry and academia. Industry representatives recruit on-site because of the esteemed reputation of our program.

The PhD candidate is required to have completed the courses outlined below. The PhD degree is primarily a research degree conferred upon students who have demonstrated proficiency in their chosen field of research. PhD students take a comprehensive examination between the beginning and end of their third year of graduate study. The dissertation is defended in a final oral examination.

The Core Curriculum that students must complete is based upon the focus area selected. At the time of selection of an advisor, the student should also designate the focus area for their graduate program: Physical & Applied Pharmaceutics, Drug Disposition & Dynamics, or Drug Delivery & Tissue Engineering. The core curriculum for each of the focus areas is outlined below. Requests for deviation from the core requirements or acceptance of course work at another institution in lieu of a core course must be approved by the student’s major advisor.
