The curriculum for the undergraduate major in Chemistry with a teacher education concentration offered through the College of Arts and Sciences provides a strong background in the basic concepts of analytical, organic, physical, and inorganic chemistry for the student who is interested in a career in science teaching at the secondary level.

Reach your career goals:

This program approved by the Illinois State Board of Education, leads to the Initial Secondary License qualifying students to teach Secondary Science. Students who major in biology with a concentration in secondary education may obtain an endorsement that prepares them for teaching in the middle school.

Applicants must:

have earned an Official high school diploma (or equivalent) or GED

Must have a minimum of 2.0 unweighted high school GPA on a 4.0 scale

Earned fewer than 24 semester hours of college credit to start GSU as a freshman

International students should have TOEFL score 500 on paper based with 53 on reading, 54 on writing, 53 on Listening, 173 on computer based with 20 on reading, 21 on writing, 19 on Listening and IBT score of 68 with 19 on reading, 16 on writing, 18 on Listening and 15 on speaking.

Application Deadline: Spring: December 01; Fall : April 01.
