¿Qué aprenderé?

The University of Cincinnati’s Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nutrition & Dietetics - Coordinated Program has transitioned to the 5-year Accelerated Dietitian Nutritionist Program. This change reflects new Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accreditation standards. First-year students entering the University of Cincinnati in Fall 2020 and beyond should enroll in either the Nutrition & Dietetics – Community Nutrition or Nutrition & Dietetics – Sports Nutrition program and then apply to complete the Accelerated Dietitian Nutritionist Program in the Spring semester of their sophomore year.

The last class of juniors to enter UC’s Coordinated Program will be in 2021.

The Coordinated Program in Dietetics allows students to complete the training necessary to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). This training includes two components: didactic (academic) coursework in dietetics and supervised practice experience. The program is a coordinated program in that students learn about different aspects of nutrition and dietetics practice in the classroom and then apply their acquired knowledge and skills in supervised practice rotations in clinical, community, food service and a variety of other settings.

Dietetics professionals work in a variety of settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, food companies, supermarkets, private practice settings, eating disorder centers, dialysis clinics, research centers, academia, health departments, business corporations, health clubs, and many other areas.

An individual who wishes to become a:

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) must complete didactic coursework in dietetics, an accredited post-baccalaureate dietetic internship, and pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration credentialing exam for RDNs. This credential enables the RDN to perform nutrition risk assessments and prescribe medical nutrition therapy to remediate or prevent disease. In 2024 eligibility to take the credentialing exam for RDNs will require a graduate degree.

Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) must complete the Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and then they can take the Commission on Dietetic Registration credentialing exam for NDTRs. This credential enables a NDTR to work in partnership with the RDN to screen, evaluate and educate patients on topics related to nutrition.

Certified Dietary Manager, Certified Food Protection Professional (CDM) can take the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers credentialing exam after completing the Bachelor of Science in Dietetics. This credential recognizes experts in managing dietary operations.
