SRU offers both a major and a minor in Sociology.

WHY CHOOSE SOCIOLOGY?

With a solid understanding of the principles of sociology, you will have the tools with which to understand the causes and consequences of social interactions and social change. Our faculty and curriculum are focused on bringing concepts into practical applications and everyday situations. CAREERS IN SOCIOLOGY

The position "Sociologist" does not appear much in job searches. However, many employers consider a background in sociology to be extremely beneficial. Sociology graduates can find variety of opportunities in business and the human services.

They work in federal, state, and local agencies dealing with criminal justice, education, transportation, and health and human services. They also work in business and industry in such areas as personnel, marketing and product testing, and development.

At SRU, the sociology program curriculum prepares its graduates to enter into the market in various capacities, or pursue their education at graduate levels. More specifically, an emphasis in sociology will prepare you for jobs in the following areas:

English language requirements: Applicants must score a minimum of 61 on the internet based test (iBT), a minimum of 500 on the written test or a minimum of a 173 on the computer based test. Applicants must receive an overall IELTS score at band 6.0 or above.
