¿Qué aprenderé?

Money is a part of modern society on every imaginable level. Individuals, families, small companies, large corporations, nonprofit organizations and governments must be able to manage their finances. Our finance program prepares you to raise money, manage debt and invest your assets. You will work diligently to understand the financing of business enterprises: the financial decision making process, how financial markets function, and the acquisition and management of capital.

Program Details

Outstanding teaching, a curriculum relevant to contemporary business, integrating theory into practice, students working closely with faculty, a great track record in placing graduates — these are just a few of the things that characterize the Department of Economics and Finance. We offer undergraduate majors in finance and business economics in the School of Business Administration, and we also offer an economics major and an applied mathematical economics major in the College of Arts and Sciences. At the graduate level, we offer a finance concentration in the MBA program and support the Master of Financial Mathematics degree.

Program Outcomes

Our department believes educational experiences are best learned through real-world experiences. Accordingly, we offer several opportunities that allow you to apply the knowledge you learn in the classroom to practical business situations.

Learn about the financial process firsthand in the Davis Center for Portfolio Management. The center serves as a hands-on laboratory where you develop and implement strategies in security selection, diversification, asset allocation and risk management, while gaining experience with sophisticated investment management software. Also, get firsthand experience and learn the specifics of trading derivatives in the Hanley Trading Center.

You can invest real money — and watch it grow — through the Vertically Integrated Investment Program. The program consists of a series of courses leading to the seminar in investments, in which you will manage a portfolio that is worth over $20 million. An advisory committee of professionals from the financial services industry provides you with invaluable feedback on investment strategies.

To prepare for your career, you can concentrate your studies in investment analysis and portfolio management, or corporate financial management.

The School of Business Administration’s undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by AACSB International — The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
