¿Qué aprenderé?

The Bachelor of Science major in Geography Resource and Environmental Studies prepares students for a wide variety of government and private sector occupations relating to resource conservation and/or environmental management. Graduates pursue careers with employers such as the Texas General Land Office, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the National Geographic Society, the Lower Colorado River Authority, the San Antonio Water System, Motorola, Valero Energy and various private – sector environmental consulting firms.

General Requirements

The general education core curriculum courses are listed in the degree plan below along with the statewide component code number. See the General Education Core Curriculum section of this catalog for the Texas State requirements and options in the core curriculum, including Honors courses.

This major requires students to select a minor area of study from the approved list of Undergraduate Minors offered at Texas State. Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Anthropology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Plant and Soil Science, or Physics are minors that are highly recommended to complement your Geography major. Other minors may be appropriate depending upon your interests and career goals. Discuss other possible options with your academic advisor.

This major requires a minimum of 36 semester credit hours of Geography courses.

Students must have attended at least two years of school in the U.S. must provide SAT/ACT scores and meet regular freshman admission standards are as follows: Four credits of English; Four credits of Math; Four credits of Science; Three credits of Social Studies; Two credits of Foreign Language; One credit of Fine Arts; One credit of Physical Education.

Minimum Score for Regular Admission: Total: 78 (Each Section: 19; Except Writing: 18), TOEFL PBT: Total: 550, IELTS (Overall: 6.5; Each Section: 6.0), GCE/GCSE/IGCSE: Grade of "C", WASSCE: Grade of "B3".

An International Baccalaureate grade of 4 or higher in English A1 or A2 at the Higher Level or Standard Level or English B at the Higher Level is required for regular admission (predicted or actual).
