As a student in the Department of Printmaking, you will receive the technical and aesthetic instruction and learn the critical-thinking skills necessary to develop as a working print artist. Printmaking is an extension of drawing; thus, drawing and compositional skills are developed along with those of printmaking.
You will learn the basics of the major techniques and must achieve mastery in lithography and etching. Black-and-white and color processes are taught in all media within the program. You are also encouraged to pursue other areas of the printmaking curriculum, such as relief, monotype, letterpress printing, and book arts. The work will lead to your senior exhibition and help prepare you for graduate school or a career in printmaking and the arts.
Lectures, demonstrations, and workshops with well-known visiting artists and master printers further enhance the curriculum.
Featured Courses
After your foundation year, this program guides you through a series of independent studios and printmaking intensives. You must complete 77–80 studio credits for your major, plus 45–46 academic credits.
