Why Study About East Asia:
The East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) major provides intensive studies in the languages and cultures of East Asia, focusing on China and Japan, the world's largest economies and important U.S. trading partners. EALC prepares students for careers in government, defense, science, engineering, technology, education, and publishing.
Curriculum and Courses
This major offers a broad knowledge of East Asian cultures and languages, focusing on China and Japan, from various fields of literature, history, art, geography, and religion. Students can choose either China concentration or Japan concentration. Students are required to complete 15 credit hours of their chosen languages above 201, plus 9 selective hours (China or Japan) and 12 related hours.
