¿Qué aprenderé?

CMU's therapeutic recreation program is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and practical experience necessary to become a nationally certified therapeutic recreation specialist.​ In our major, students will learn how to provide functional treatment services and recreational activities for those within a community with intellectual disabilities, emotional impairments, physical disabilities, chemical dependency or seniors with disabilities. ​

Finish up your academic career with a 15- or 30-week clinical internship.

Learn from faculty, all of whom have professional therapeutic recreation experience and are all nationally Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists.

Graduates of this program are passing the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) examination at a rate higher than the regional and national norms.

Students must have attended all secondary and post-secondary institutions.

Para estudiantes internacionales

Students are required to complete all secondary and post-secondary institutions.

They must demonstrate a proficiency in English by one of the following methods:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (minimum score of 550 PBT, 213 CBT, or 79 IBT)
  • International English Language Testing System (minimum score of 6.5)
  • Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (minimum score of 77)
  • Pearson Test of English (minimum score of 53)
  • ELS Language Center Program: Completion of Level 112

Students competing in intercollegiate athletics must submit a qualifying ACT or SAT score to meet NCAA eligibility requirements. Apply by May 15 if you are beginning classes in the fall semester. Apply by October 1 to begin classes in the spring semester.
