The B.S.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and Teaching prepares undergraduate students for roles as teachers and daycare providers of infants, toddlers, and young children in schools and community daycare/preschool settings. The program focuses on providing students with a solid foundation in child development, educational psychology and the role of the family and society in education.
The PK-3 concentration emphasizes working with young learners in inclusive settings and the value of play in early childhood instructional environments. Students will develop skills to advocate for equitable learning opportunities for all children.
Upon completion of degree requirements in any of VCU's undergraduate educator preparation programs and with the recommendation of the School of Education, students are eligible to receive initial licensure from the Virginia Department of Education.

Admission to a Virginia Commonwealth University undergraduate degree program requires graduation from a secondary school or the equivalent (lyceum, senior middle school, university preparatory school, completion of GCSE exams, Standard 12 graduation, etc.), which typically consists of at least 12 years beyond kindergarten. Your secondary education should be the type that would prepare you for entrance to a recognized university in your home country. The required TOEFL score for undergraduate applicants is 70 iBT, reading 13-18, Listening 12-19 and Writing 21-23 PBT; or IELTS of 6.0 (academic band score). The required PTE score is 53. Application deadlines for freshmen: Fall: Jan. 15 (regular decision); spring: Nov. 1.
