Coursework follows a logical sequence from basic concepts to highly technical principles, with emphasis in the following areas:

Computer engineering technology

  • Data communications
  • Design
  • Digital technology
  • Economic analysis for engineering and technology
  • Information technology (from an infrastructure perspective)

Several professional courses are included to assist students in developing managerial skills. Internships and co-ops are available. Many students increase their employment opportunities by adding a minor in mathematics or business, or by earning a second bachelor degree in electronics technology.

Indiana State's Computer Engineering Technology Program is distinctive in its emphasis on blending classroom learning with practical experience and extracurricular activities that result in exciting and challenging study.

Courses combine technical laboratory instruction with academic study, which affords students practice and experiences commensurate with modern industry.

Internships and co-ops enable students to earn academic credit, supplement their income, and gain valuable work experience. Approximately 85 percent of those who participate are offered full-time employment by the partnership company after graduation.

Students benefit from small classes taught by full-time professors. Coursework is centered in the University's John T. Myers Technology Center, which has more than 20 state-of-the-art laboratories filled with up-to-date equipment and supplies.

A number of organizations are available that enable students to interact with other students and professionals in the industry. These include ISA (the international society for measurement and control) and Epsilon Pi Tau (the international honorary for professions in technology).

Eligible students may participate in the University's Honors Program and study abroad opportunities—which range from summer programs to a single semester or a full academic year in over 56 countries.
