Our PGCE in Primary Mathematics (postgraduate and professional routes) covers all primary subjects but allows you to focus on maths. It will help you develop your knowledge and skills to teach in primary schools and help you understand the National Curriculum and the key learning needs of children.

Over a significant placement, you will develop your professional practice so you can meet the broad demands of the profession. This PGCE provides a competitive edge in terms of career opportunities and will help you progress to mathematics subject leader or primary specialist.
Our course is run in partnership with schools. You will spend a minimum of 24 weeks in a primary school, as well as further opportunities in a range of educational contexts. In school, you will be trained to teach all subjects, with additional opportunities to focus further on primary mathematics to enhance your mathematical understanding. There will also be further opportunities to engage in school-based training in a range of specialist schools and educational contexts. Graduates from this course can pursue a teaching career in primary schools. Maths specialists should be able to develop a maths-specific responsibility within the school, alongside their class teacher role.
