Our areas of expertise

The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences focuses on research in areas including development and treatment of psychopathology such as depression, anxiety and autism, diet-brain interactions, language development, impairment, and multilingualism, and (3D) vision.

We are committed to fundamental, applied, and clinical research which changes lives across the world.

Research environment

With multiple on-site clinics and modern neuroimaging facilities, we bridge the gap between lab-based and clinical psychological research.

Our research integrates with health services and industry. We host several NHS clinics in the school, and staff work with a wide range of industrial partners.

To be accepted on our PhD programme, you will need a Bachelor's degree of at least 2:1 level (or equivalent), or a master's degree, in a subject related to your proposed PhD research topic. If you are from outside of the UK, you will also need to demonstrate you have a certain level of proficiency with written and spoken English. In some areas of the University (particularly in the arts, humanities, social sciences and business) applicants are normally only accepted if they have a master's level qualification. The majority of PhD programmes require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 however, some areas require a score of 7.0 these are: Henley Business School (with the exception of Business Informatics and Systems Accounting which accepts 6.5), School of Arts and Communication Design, School of Humanities, School of Languages Literature and European Studies and Institute of Education.
