As a postgraduate research student in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science at Reading, you will be part of a vibrant world-class research community. Careers

Our PhD students go on to work in academia as postdoctoral researchers and lecturers, but also quickly find employment in industries such as environmental consultancies, engineering, GIS, ecotoxicology, NGOs and financial services.

To be accepted on our PhD programme, you will need an Bachelor's degree of at least 2.1 level (or equivalent), or a master's degree, in a subject related to your proposed PhD research topic. In some areas of the University (particularly in the arts, humanities, social sciences and business) applicants are normally only accepted if they have a master's level qualification. The majority of PhD programmes require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 however, some areas require a score of 7.0 these are: Henley Business School (with the exception of Business Informatics and Systems Accounting which accepts 6.5), School of Arts and Communication Design, School of Humanities, School of Languages Literature and European Studies and Institute of Education.
