FdA Performing Arts is a two-year, performance-based course that aims to provide you with the required skills, knowledge and understanding of acting, dance and singing needed to be successful as a contemporary performer in the performing arts industry.This highly practical programme provides an equal training in singing, dance and acting, aiming to develop multidisciplinary, employable graduates. Throughout the two-year course you will practically explore and study a range of genres, styles, techniques and practitioners which will be enriched by an exciting line up of industry practitioner workshops, master classes, guest speakers and trips. The first year of the programme is focused on individual skill development in all three disciplines; where you will participate in practical workshops and studio sessions taught in industry standard studios by specialist staff.The modules in the first year include:Training Techniques - emphasises the importance of developing and updating skills to compete in the freelance industry.Dramatic Techniques – introduces and explores core dramatic performance techniques and exposes you to professional theatre.The Dancing Practitioner - introduces and provides you with the opportunity to develop your technique in a range of different dance styles.The Singing Practitioner - to fine tune pitch, projection and tonality, and refine both melody singing and harmony singing.Personal and Professional Development 1 - includes work-based placement and helps to action plan your personal and professional development.The year will conclude with the module: Performance Project 1 which allows you to explore and develop your performance skills with professional styled auditions, rehearsals and a performance to a public audience The second year of the course is dedicated to applying the skills and knowledge gained in year 1, developing networking opportunities and providing work related experiences to enhance employment prospects. Second year modules include: Influential Practitioners- investigates, explores and examines a range of dance, acting and singing practitioners to develop your understanding of contemporary theatre practice. Theatre in the Community – enables you to gain hands on experience of working with a specific target audience, applying your skills and knowledge to a performing arts commission-based project. Acting Through Song and Dance- emphasises storytelling of a character combining your skills in acting, singing and dance.Personal and Professional Development 2- provides the opportunity for you to prepare for your next step in your chosen career path; exploring possible future employment and self-employment opportunities, paying attention to audition technique, self-marketing, and management. The two years will culminate in a large-scale ensemble performance project that mirrors industry practice and simulates a work-related setting. The production will be performed in a theatrical setting to a public audience and will enable you to undertake and gain experience of a performance and production role.
