This four year programme has been specifically designed to allow students who do not initially meet the entry requirements for a three year degree, to undertake additional level 3 study designed to ensure they are successful on their chosen degree programme.After successful completion of your foundation year, you will have the flexibility to switch (should you wish to change direction) onto a number of related undergraduate degree programmes within Birmingham School of Media.This programme offers students the opportunity to develop creative and practical skills in media production. Students will work on projects in radio, television and online production, supported by staff with industry experience and visiting speakers from the world of media. Students will develop a critical understanding of creative production and digital storytelling techniques. They will work collaboratively on projects and produce a professional portfolio of work. On completion of the course students will be able to progress on to a media or media-related degree.We are a pioneering institution, delivering some of the first UK media degrees. The BA (Hons) Media and Communication is a dynamic course that gives you a choice of from a range of modules to complement your radio specialism, including music industries, TV and journalism, allowing you to mould your course to suit your future ambitions.With a strong emphasis on mirroring the workflow of the industry in our purpose-built media centre, we offer practical, professional preparation for a rewarding career.What's covered in the course?Helped by strong links with many influential media organisations, the course offers an industry-relevant blend of production, theory and professional studies..Teaching takes place in our suite of radio studios and audio production suites, as well the TV and photography studios and editing suites depending on the modules you choose. This is in addition to the lecture theatres, seminar rooms, social learning spaces and online learning you would expect to find. You use blogs, create wikis, and employ social media channels and other interactive media to support your work and self-development.Why Choose Us?Enjoy the flexibility to opt for a general study of Media and Communication, or a specialist route in Radio, Television, Web and New Media, Journalism, Event and Exhibition Industries, Music Industries or Public Relations. We provide specialised, sophisticated equipment for every area in our £62 million home in the city centre, including six radio studios, four TV studios, the largest free-standing green screen in Europe, editing suites, music production studios and photography studios (including a half and a full infinity cove). Students will use blogs, create wikis and other interactive media to support their work and self-development.All staff at the School are established media professionals who bring with them a range of expertise. They are able to recognise and respond to the rapidly changing demands of the media, ensuring that the course remains relevant to the industry.

Students need to Pass the High School Graduation Diploma with a GPA of 2.6 / 75% including a minimum grade C in English Language (and grade C in Maths for Business School / TEE courses that require GCSE Maths) PLUS OLD (Pre March 2016) Pass SATR (Reasoning) with a minimum of 500 in 3 subjects, NEW (Post March 2016) Pass SAT (Reasoning) with a combined score from 2 subjects of 1100 out of 1600 OR Pass ACT (American College Testing Programme) with a composite score of 21 or above PLUS OLD (Pre March 2016) Pass SATS II with a minimum of 500 in 3 subjects, NEW (Post March 2016) Pass SAT (Subject) with a minimum of 500 in 3 subjects OR Pass 3 AP (Advanced Placement Examinations) with grade 3 or above. TEE courses that require A Level Maths will require AP Maths (Calculus). Undergraduate Art and Design courses may require a good portfolio of artwork. All undergraduate courses in CEBE require Mathematics at O Level. However for the Engineering suite and BEng Telecommunication and Networks, Mathematics is required at AS Level minimum Grade C or the equivalent. All Business School undergraduate courses require a minimum of Mathematics Grade C at O Level or an equivalent qualification. Students need to have an IELTS of 6.0 overall (with no band below 5.5).
