Course overview

Our MRes in History offers an excellent opportunity for you to extend your range and depth of historical knowledge alongside your proficiency in research and project management. It is ideal preparation for a PhD in History as well as a valuable qualification for those pursuing a wide range of careers.

Assessment

Assessment for the two core modules is via written coursework of approximately 4,000 words, comprising essays, literature reviews and oral presentations. Your Research Dissertation will be approximately 28,000 words in length.

Job prospects

This programme prepares students for advanced postgraduate historical research; it also provides students with the skills necessary for careers in the education, archival management, and heritage sectors.

Classroom based fee: £13,308 per annum and Laboratory based fee: £17,142 per annum. A bench fee may be payable in respect of certain high-cost subjects for other subject areas. The mentioned fee is 2022/23 entry, there may be slight increase in 2023/24 entry.

Students must have Bachelor's Degree from a recognised institution with 2.8 or above. IELTS. 6.5 (Min 5.5 in each sub-skill).

Para estudiantes internacionales

International/EU Students: Students from countries outside the UK are expected to have entry qualifications roughly equivalent to British Bachelor's degree (or equivalent). We accept a wide range of qualifications and consider all applications individually on merit. We may also consider appropriate work experience. They need an IELTS academic 6.5 (no less than 5.5 in any band), TOEFL iBT overall score: 88 with minimum sub skill: Listening 17, Reading 18, Speaking 20, and Writing 17.
