About the course

Turning a building design into a completed project takes a huge amount of work. You have to carefully manage experts from a range of professions and trades, and liaise with clients, end users and designers to make sure it all goes smoothly. This course aims to give you the skills to take a project to completion, on time and on budget.

Construction is a global industry, and we want to give you the skills to be able to make your mark in your chosen profession.

Why study Construction Project Management?

  • We’ll help you develop an understanding of what goes into global construction at each stage of a project, so we’ll cover the client’s initial brief through to design, procurement, construction, operations and maintenance of built assets.
  • We’ll give you the chance to work on your leadership skills, and we’ll introduce you to Lean Construction and Building Information Modelling (BIM) with insights from world-leading practitioners and academics.
  • Opportunities to work collaboratively with students across other courses in Architecture and Built Environment may give you experience and understanding in how to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Lean thinking is becoming more and more important in building a sustainable global environment. We’ll give you the chance to explore why it’s important to reduce all kinds of waste in a project, and how you might go about doing it.

We will also look at BIM, to show you how it could help deliver better value too. BIM enables clients, constructors and other parties to collaborate on projects, physically and virtually, wherever in the world they happen to be based. That means that projects can be managed more effectively, generating better value for clients and having less impact on society.

As a student on the Construction Project Management BSc(Hons), you’ll be studying with peers from other subjects such as Surveying (Quantity Surveying), Architecture and Architectural Technology. Construction Project Management BSc(Hons), is part of a suite of courses that also includes Surveying (Quantity Surveying). Once you’ve enrolled on one of the courses, you’re free to switch to one of the others (with the agreement of your tutors) between the first and second year if your interests change. You only have to apply for one course within the suite we offer.

Your career

This course can help you develop the necessary skills to lead collaborative design and construction teams, effectively manage projects, and adopt innovative approaches such as Lean Construction and Building Information Modelling (BIM). Construction Project Management (CPM) graduates could consider careers in managing infrastructure and civil engineering projects too. The course aims to help you to develop skills that are transferable to managing these type of projects.
