**Studying Art and Philosophy opens your mind with radically different ways of thinking and looking at the world, from the visual, material and technical, to the logical and theoretical.** In each subject we ask ethical and metaphysical questions about real-world issues in life and society from both Western and global perspectives. This joint course supercharges the imagination, hones your critical judgement and heightens powers of reasoning and argument**Art**Join a lively community at Reading School of Art. Explore a vast range of media, experiment with emerging art forms and develop as an artist. The studios are busy places with events, workshops, performances and exhibitions regularly taking place. There is dedicated space accessible 24 hours a day and seven days a week, and daily access to studio tutors during the week to help develop your individual and professional practice.Trips to museums and art galleries help prompt thoughts on how art is displayed and received and you can gain professional experience by taking part in your own exhibitions, public art commissions and events. Our teaching staff are all artists, curators and researchers of international standing. You will learn through a mixture of studio teaching, seminars, lectures, group workshops and critiques, technical and material sessions, exhibition making, one-to-one tutorials and field trips. You will have access to our range of facilities, including workshops for construction, printing and casting, darkroom for photography digital tools for film and video editing, imaging, sound and web building and a dedicated audio-visual room and sound-recording booth. **Philosophy**Studying philosophy at the University of Reading will equip you with the ability to think logically, evaluate arguments critically, and challenge your own ideas and those of other people. We will give you an understanding of the central philosophical principles, concepts, challenges, texts and figures from Western, Continental and non-Western Philosophy. You will be taught by leading experts whose research strengths lie especially in moral philosophy and the philosophy of the mind and language.With seminar groups supporting your lectures, we ensure that students receive dedicated individual attention, and we were given an overall student satisfaction rating of 96% for BA Philosophy in the National Student Survey 2019.**Placements**Your degree includes career management skills training and you will be encouraged to undertake academic and work placements during your studies. Previous art students have enjoyed art internships at Studio Voltaire, Frieze Art Fair, and Tate Exchange, performed at the ICA, London and participated in an international exhibition at the Seoul Institute of Arts in South Korea.**Study abroad** In your second or third year, you can spend a term studying abroad at one of our partner institutions in the USA, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, or Europe. You can also participate in week-long international study trips as part of a module for which you gain credits. **Careers**A degree in Art and Philosophy will prepare you either for further study or to enter professions across the flourishing cultural and creative industries or a number of other fields. As well as becoming an artist or writer, you could choose to work in museums and galleries, education, digital and social media, publishing, advertising, marketing and public relations, law and politics and management and business. Students with US High School Diploma with GPA of 3.0/4.0 will be considered for entry onto International Foundation Programme. We do accept several combinations of qualifications for students who completed the High School Diploma but generally we consider the following common combinations: High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and grades ranging from 444 - 555 in three Advanced placement tests Or High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and scores ranging from 600 - 700 in three SAT Subjects Tests. A levels/AS levels or International Baccalaureate (IB) or other International qualications will also be considered.
