**Explore both the practical and theoretical sides of art and film and investigate how each discipline has influenced the other.** Discover film from the late nineteenth century to the modern day while developing your professional practice under the guidance of internationally renowned artists and curators at Reading School of Art.**Art**Join a lively community at Reading School of Art. You can explore a vast range of media, experiment with emerging art forms and develop as an artist. The studios are busy places with events, workshops, performances and exhibitions regularly taking place. There is dedicated space accessible 24 hours a day and seven days a week, and daily access to studio tutors during the week to help develop your individual and professional practice. Trips to museums and art galleries help prompt thoughts on how art is displayed and received and you can gain professional experience by taking part in your own exhibitions, public art commissions and events. Our teaching staff are all artists, curators and researchers of international standing. You will learn through a mixture of studio teaching, seminars, lectures, group workshops and critiques, technical and material sessions, exhibition making, one-to-one tutorials and field trips. You will have access to our range of facilities, including workshops for construction, printing and casting, darkroom for photography, digital tools for film and video editing, imaging, sound and web building and a dedicated audio-visual room and sound-recording booth. **Film**You will choose from a range of modules covering world cinema, experimental film-making, new forms of digital entertainment and video art and the cinema of classical and contemporary Hollywood, such as musicals, melodrama and action cinema. Practical work complements your critical and theoretical study allowing you to apply what you learn through practice, drawing on the market-leading facilities of our Minghella Studios, including a film and television studio, cutting rooms and audio post-production facilities, three theatre spaces, and a digital cinema.Study the complex histories and social impact of your chosen subject using various critical approaches and have the flexibility to specialise in your favourite areas. There is the option to create short films, television pieces or theatre performances; this can include directing, projection, sound and lighting as well as post-production techniques such as editing, colour grading and sound mixing. With support of dedicated technicians you will develop your technical skills in multimedia spaces designed to encourage innovation and creativity.**Placements**Your degree includes career management skills training and you will be encouraged to undertake academic and work placements during your studies. Previous art students have enjoyed internships at Studio Voltaire, Frieze Art Fair, and Tate Exchange, performed at the ICA, London and taken part in an Arts Council-supported film project at the Museum of Rural Life.**Study abroad** In your second or third year, you can spend a term studying abroad at one of our partner institutions in the USA, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and Europe. You can also participate in week-long international study trips as part of a module for which you gain credits. **Careers**You will enter the job market as a confident graduate with well-developed skills in oral and visual communication, research and writing, together with a high level of cultural literacy and critical sophistication. Students with US High School Diploma with GPA of 3.0/4.0 will be considered for entry onto International Foundation Programme. We do accept several combinations of qualifications for students who completed the High School Diploma but generally we consider the following common combinations: High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and grades ranging from 444 - 555 in three Advanced placement tests Or High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and scores ranging from 600 - 700 in three SAT Subjects Tests. A levels/AS levels or International Baccalaureate (IB) or other International qualications will also be considered.
