¿Qué aprenderé?

This PGDip/MSc in Adult Nursing leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and offers graduates a funded route over two-years into nursing whilst simultaneously obtaining a postgraduate qualification. This post graduate qualification is aimed at graduates who wish develop apply their knowledge gained their undergraduate degree and pursue a career in the front-line delivery of health care services. The aim of this course is to prepare a registered nurse who is able to offer an excellent quality of compassionate care, enhanced leadership, management and holds inter-professional and research skills, in order to influence practice and initiate change.

Our exceptional teaching provision is based upon the latest research into practice (which is a key focus of the schools highly ranked research activity) and is grounded in modern clinical practice. The Adult Nursing PGDip will equip graduates particularly well to thrive in rapidly changing environments, taking into account how behaviour, culture, socioeconomic and other factors, in the care environment and its location, can affect health, illness, health outcomes and public health priorities

PGDip students will graduate from the programme as adult nurses, with the necessary knowledge, skills, competence and values required to meet required Statutory requirements for registration with the NMC. If they complete the additional dissertation module they will also be awarded an MSc.

Careers

Students successfully completing the Post Graduate Diploma Adult nursing are able to register their professional status with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and seek employment as a registered nurse.

Those completing the Post Graduate Diploma and who are able to register with the NMC will be expected to work in Wales for a period of two years in accordance with the guidance provided by Welsh Government.

Employability rates are high in comparison to other graduates, given the professional competence and qualification in association with a degree. Career opportunities once employed as registered nurse are excellent and can lead to promotion opportunities in clinical practice/specialism, research or education. Career pathways and progression frequently facilitate opportunity to undertake further study to complete a full Master’s degree or /and Doctoral Study level.

Students must hold a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a reputable university. No GRE requirement, however we do request a personal statement, transcripts and a research proposal where appropriate. Each application is assessed individually. Candidates who require additional studies in order to reach the desired level for entry onto a Masters degree will be considered for an extended Masters degree with incorporated Pre-Masters. Law students can apply directly to the Law programs at Bangor. There is no need for a previous undergraduate degree. Students who have already completed an undergraduate degree in the US (in any subject) are eligible to apply to the two-year LLB degree. This is an accelerated course allowing students to complete their LLB in two years. Students may be eligible for entry under the mature student regulations. This regulation does not require a bachelor degree. The applicants must however have obtained relevant work experience or held a position of responsibility relevant to the proposed course of study for a minimum period of 2 years prior to commencing the course. This rule does NOT apply for applicants for PhD studies, and entrants MUST have a taught postgraduate degree. Entry onto undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is dependent on academic qualifications and English Language Level. Applicants from USA need NOT provide additional evidence of English Language ability, if previous education was with English medium of instruction. Otherwise, an IELTS overall 6.0 with 5.5 in each component or equivalent is normally required (some courses may require a higher score).

To apply for the Post Graduate Diploma Adult Nursing an applicant would normally have achieved a 2.1 honours degree in a health / life or social science related subject, within the last 5 years, and be able to demonstrate undertaken 700 hours of healthcare related experience which can be mapped to the NMC progression point one core competencies. In addition to the attainment of a suitable degree, the NMC require that all applicants must demonstrate evidence of communication and numeracy, and these must be demonstrated normally via GCSE at C or above in English or Welsh 1st language and Mathematics. As this is a funded programme by the Workforce, Education and Development Service (WEDS) international students will not be able to apply for this programme of study. The NMC also require that evidence of ‘Good Health and Good Character’ be obtained, and in addition to the supportive reference to the application, the School has adopted the All Wales Good Character reference. Good Character is further assessed by way of a Full/Enhanced DBS report, and these are risk assessed by the partnership in accordance with the School’s policy. Good Health is assessed by the local Health Board’s Health at Work Unit, and students are monitored throughout the programme and supported where required. IELTS 6.0 (5.5). TOEFL 75 Overall.
