If you have always been fascinated by the human psyche and what makes people tick, the Diploma in Psychology Studies (PCS) will help you hone this passion.

This rigorous diploma gives you the right skills needed to apply psychology in various fields, from education, health care, social services to human resource and development. Psychology can also be used to detect the behavioural symptoms of the mentally ill, counsel people in distress, support individuals to achieve their potential and much more. With the highly practical and relevant professional skills that PCS providers, you will be well-prepared for both work and further studies in this field.

Over the course of three years, you will study the different aspects of psychology. In your first year, you will study about lifespan and social psychology. Following which, look forward to getting a grasp of health psychology, personality and individual differences in the second year. Then in your final year, delve into brain and behaviour as well as community psychology.

In addition to the psychology modules, you will also be taught professional skills in research, counselling, managing conflicts and applying behaviour modification and group facilitation techniques in clinical, counselling and social work settings.

To further hone your skills, you will work on research projects with industry partners right from your first year and go on study trips to countries such as Hong Kong to observe social service sectors in a different cultural context.

In your final year, get the chance to intern and complete a final-year project with key organisations. Our industry partners include government agencies (Ministry of Social and Family Development and Singapore Prison Service), hospitals (Singapore General Hospital and Institute of Mental Health), and voluntary welfare organisations or VWOs (Asian Women’s Welfare Association and Family Service Centres).

Career

PCS graduates are well-placed to become research assistants, psychology assistants, social work associates, statistical officer (fieldwork research), welfare and rehabilitation officers, and VWO programme and administration executives. With further studies and training, you can become a certified psychologist, social worker or counsellor.

Further studies

PCS graduates get to enjoy up to one semester’s worth of exemption for relevant degree programmes at Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore.
