This programme is for those who want to extend their knowledge in sport and exercise science, and is designed to build on an undergraduate degree or equivalent industry experience with further specialist knowledge.

There is a growing demand for quality Strength and Conditioners from the Waikato region's sport performance community so we have developed a Postgraduate module in Strength and Conditioning.

Our postgraduate sports programmes focus on applied learning, are strongly industry-focused, and supported by a team of highly-skilled academic staff. Students will get to apply their learning in our purpose-built facilities.

Additional information

Students will study at Wintec’s Centre for Sport Science & Human Performance which is located at the Rotokauri Campus. The laboratories are fully equipped and accredited with Sport and Exercise Science New Zealand and are amongst New Zealand’s best sport science facilities. Students will have access to ‘state of the art’ sport testing and consulting, as used by national and international athletes.

Career opportunities

Graduates may be employed in specialised roles in sport science research; the fitness industry; individual and team sport training and consultancy and regional and national sporting organisation positions.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in relevant area with a grades average of B or better in the final year of full-time study (or equivalent in part-time study), conferred by a New Zealand tertiary education institution, or a qualification with a grades average of B or better in the final year of full-time study (or equivalent in part-time study), industry experience and/or informal transfer of credit approved as equivalent by Postgraduate Programme Committee. Other English Language Requirements: TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE); FCE with a pass at Grade B or CAE with a score of 52; NZCEL Level 5 with the academic endorsement; PToE (Academic) score of 50; B2 Communicator with a score of 66 in City & Guilds IESOL.

Applicants are required to have gained:

English Language Requirements

Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.5, with no individual band score lower than 6.0; or

  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score of 79 (with a writing score of 21)
  • TOEFL Paper-based Test (pBT) score of 590 (with an essay score of 5.5 TWE)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 58 with no band score lower than 50
