This animal care course is ideal for anyone wanting to work in an organisation caring for companion animals.
You'll carry out the day-to-day care of our animals here on campus and learn about animal behaviour, basic training, anatomy and physiology, breeding, first aid and more!
No two days are ever the same and you'll come out with valuable skills and knowledge to take with you on your career in the care and welfare of animals.
Upon successfully completing the requirements you'll receive the award of:
New Zealand Certificate in Animal Management (Companion Animals) (Level 4)

You will be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of work experience in two different animal care facilities throughout the year while you study.

You must have:
completed 36 NCEA credits at Level 2, AND
a minimum of 12 NCEA credits in English at Level 2 and 12 credits of a relevant science at Level 1, OR
successfully completed the New Zealand Certificate in Animal Care (Level 3)
provide a Declaration Record of Criminal History when enrolling and read and sign an off-campus student learning contract.
If you are aged 20 years or above, and do not meet the academic requirements, you may be given special admission if Toi Ohomai staff are satisfied you are capable of successfully completing the requirements.
English Language requirements:
IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0; TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE); Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill; OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests; PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36.
