Programme overview
The MLitt is an alternative to the PhD if you already have a masters degree and want to complete a substantial research project. You can complete an MLitt in most subjects offered by the Faculty of Arts, subject to approval and availability of supervision. You may be able to further your research interests in the same subject as your first masters degree, or undertake research in a new area.

One year of full-time study or up to two years of consecutive part-time study
Latin:
Latin was the language of the ancient Romans, and for 1500 years the principal international language of Europe.
Subject overview
The Romans left literature of enduring importance in poetry, drama, satire, history and philosophy. Learning Latin allows you to read this literature in its original form, gaining a deeper understanding of Roman culture and many modern languages, including English.

Latin is an intellectual discipline. Our graduates have moved on to careers in journalism, teaching, public relations and human resources.

An MLitt could be useful for a range of academic or professional careers, especially if you don’t want to undertake doctoral study.

You need to have completed a masters degree in any discipline from a recognised university (or similar institution) with a GPE of 4.0 or higher.
IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 and no bands less than 6.0; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 and written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 68 and a writing score of 21; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of B-; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.
