If you're intrigued by the natural world around you, or enjoy understanding how things work, Waikato's Bachelor of Science (BSc) is what you're looking for. Putting into practice what you learn in your lectures is a major part of this degree. You will gain hands-on experience with some of the most up-to-date and high-tech computing facilities and laboratory equipment.
We also take you right to the source, with field trips that might include an overnight stay to gather geothermal samples or a week-long bush camp to examine a region's flora.
The range of career options available to Bachelor of Science (BSc) graduates isn't surprising when you consider the nature of the degree. It is extremely flexible so you can combine papers to suit your strengths and interests. We keep it general in the first year so that your choice, when you do come to specialise, is an informed one. Transferring from this degree to the BCMS(Hons) is also possible at any stage in your degree.
Chemistry
Chemistry is fundamental to our understanding of all branches of science and for a wide range of industries. A degree in Chemistry from the University of Waikato means you'll gain an excellent grasp of Chemistry theory, supported by a strong emphasis on practical expertise.

Students must demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English. The University's English language entry requirements are: IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 overall (no band less than 5.5); iBT (internet based) TOEFL - 80 with a score of 21 in writing; Pearson PTE Academic - Overall score of 50 with no PTE communicative skills below 42; PBT TOEFL: Overall score of 60 with writing score of 21; C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English Advanced CAE): Overall score of 169 and no bands below 162; C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Proficiency Exam CPE): Overall score of 169 and no bands below 162; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 80.
Note: To provide flexibility to students during COVID-19 who are affected by the closure of testing centres, the University of Waikato will accept the following alternative tests for all 2021 and 2022 intakes. Please note this policy is subject to review.
Students who are accepted into their programme using any of the three language tests named above will be issued an unconditional offer, but will be required to undertake a supplementary online language assessment.
