¿Qué aprenderé?

The master's Landscape Architecture and Planning is a two-year MSc programme in Wageningen. You can specialise in Landscape Architecture and in Spatial Planning.

Landscapes form our living environment. Natural landscapes are often beautiful in themselves. However, most of those we now live in are the result of our complex interaction with the natural world. The new generation of landscape architects and spatial planners understands the challenges we face when shaping and creating the landscapes that form a key component of our living environment. Your goal is to study and design sustainable solutions for important landscape challenges such as climate change, energy needs, health, food security and urbanisation.

Specialisations

Within the master's programme you can choose one of the following Specialisations to meet your personal interests:

  • Landscape Architecture
  • Spatial Planning

If you enrol in the MLP programme, you join an academic, research-oriented group, where you learn to unravel planning processes and/or to develop creative designs founded on in-depth academic knowledge. As part of the programme, you plan, work, and reflect on your own research topic, supported and coached by experts from the professional field.

Depending on your personal ambitions, the MLP programme offers two different career tracks:

1. Professional: Here you focus on professional planning and design issues. You choose this track if your aim is to work as a reflective practitioner in the public or private sectors.

2. Research: Here your focus is research-oriented, for example if you intend to continue with a PhD after graduation, or if you intend to work as a landscape researcher.

Future career - Landscape Architecture and Planning

Once you have graduated in Landscape Architecture and Planning, the labour market offers many fields and positions related to landscape, land use and the environment. Most graduates are employed by consultancy and engineering companies, planning and design agencies, district water boards, government agencies or universities. A number of graduates work for large, multinational firms such as Oranjewoud, Arcadis or Sweco, while others are employed by small and medium sized companies or continue their career in research.
