After a general look at the most recent mainstream and heterodox economic theory, the Master’s programme in Accounting and Control totally immerses you in the world of governance, control and accounting. This Master’s will teach you everything about the figures that make businesses operate. Apart from the important professional economic aspects we also examine the social side of the profession in order to train you to be critical of a company’s financial processes as well as your own profession and to consider the consequences of the decisions you make.

Employers are increasingly looking for economists who are highly financially literate and can tackle a wide variety of economic problems. This Master’s specialisation will provide you with the skills and academic knowledge required to become a professional in the domains of auditing, accountancy, controlling and financial management/consulting. It will teach you to use your analytical skills to find the shortest route to the best solution and to take the consequences of possible actions into account before deciding.

Our graduates therefore have the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to work in financial positions for audit firms, management consulting firms, financial institutions, large and medium-sized businesses in a wide variety of industries, as well as for government and other not-for-profit organisations.

A completed Bachelor's degree in Philosophy or in a related discipline (in the latter case, students must have acquired at least 60 EC in Philosophical disciplines). The applicant must have a degree with merit or distinction or equivalent. Meaning: a student’s weighted grade-point average in Philosophy in the 2nd and 3rd year of their Bachelor's programme must be the equivalent of 7.5 or more (on the Dutch scale of 10). A TOEFL iBT or 100 overall, with subscores of 22; An IELTS score of 7.0, with subscores of 6.5; A Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 proficiency, with marks of C or higher.

Your admission into this programme depends on your previous education. You are admissible if you have a completed:

A Bachelor’s degree in a similar (or related) field from another research university with a fair number of courses in your preferred specialisation. Your degree must be equivalent to a Dutch Research University diploma.

All other students need one of the following certificates (All certificates may not be older than two years).

  • TOEFL iBT: ≥ 90 & subscores ≥ 22
  • IELTS Academic: ≥ 6,5 overall. Subscores ≥ 6,0, writing subscore ≥ 6,5
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 proficiency: C or higher
