This field focuses on the occurrence, distribution, cause, prevention, control, monitoring and surveillance of animal diseases. In research, epidemiological data analyses are used to explain and correlate the incidence of various risk factors with animal disease and those related to public health, such as emerging and marginalized zoonoses. Emphasis is given to research on disease-resistance, antibiotic residues in food and food safety. Among studies conducted include food quality and animal-based process control, microbial risk assessment and hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP). Field research includes designing of epidemiologic studies, development and assessment of systems based on HACCP for food animal / livestock farms.
