About Faculty
The Faculty of Biotechnology and Bimolecular Sciences (Biotech UPM) was established on 1st August 2004 with the merger of two departments, the Department of Biotechnology (from the Faculty of Food Science and Biotechnology) and the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology (from the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies). With the formation of Biotech UPM, all activities involving biotechnology in UPM are organized under one administration.
Plant biotechnology involves the use of plant tissue culture, molecular biology and genetic engineering to improve plant productivity; to reduce constraints to plant productivity caused by diseases, pests and environmental stresses; and to improve the quality of plant products. Plant biotechnology improves crop production and utilization that are beneficial to farmers, the food industry, plantation crop industry, consumers and the environment.

The applicant should possess a Bachelor’s degree (with honours) in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 3.000, or
The applicant who has insufficient academic qualification can be admitted into the programme subjected to any other requirement specified by the Faculty/Institute.
An applicant from a local public university who is in the final semester of his undergraduate study programme may be considered for provisional admission provided that his latest CGPA or its equivalent academic result satisfies the graduate programme admission requirements.
For applicants with one of the following
550 for the TOEFL Paper-based Test (Academic Version); or
Band 6.0 for IELTS (Academic Training); or
79-80 for TOEFL Internet-based Test (Academic Version); or
Level 109 for CIEP at ELS Language Centre; or
Any English Language Test which is equivalent to B2 in Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
