Research in surgery focuses on promoting health and well-being of animals through better understanding of animal surgical management and prevention of related problems. Studies in this area include application of surgical techniques on animals as models to understand disease pathogenesis, treatment and prevention, as well as development of minimally invasive diagnostic techniques, tissue reconstruction and replacement, application of novel biomaterials and surgical implants. Expertise of the research groups covers many disciplines, including orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, reconstructive surgery, anaesthesiology, diagnostic imaging and tissue engineering.

Candidate must have a Bachelor degree (with honours), or DVM or Bachelor of Science degree in related field from UPM or any academic institution recognised by UPM university and have achieved a minimum CGPA of 3.00
Candidate without basic requirements may apply, however, acceptance is upon approval by the School of Graduate Studies and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UPM or;
Candidate in the final semester of a Bachelor degree programme in the field of veterinary, animal, or health science or human medicine or other related fields with good academic standing throughout the study programme may be considered for admission, subject to current CGPA or equivalent or other requirement as stipulated from time to time
