¿Qué aprenderé?

Materials science is an interdisciplinary field with strong connections to physics, chemistry, biology and the engineering fields concerned with the relationship between the structure and properties of materials. This field is related to design, extraction, synthesis, processing, properties, characterization, and development of materials for technological applications. The classes of materials that is of importance include all natural and man-made materials. Specific materials of interest include advanced materials, bio polymer, magnetic materials, superconductors, ceramics, metals, biomaterials, inorganic materials, semiconductor and nanomaterial. The fundamental understanding of materials developed through materials science at the Nano, micro and macro scales, ranging from examining and understanding the basic natures of materials to the fields of maximizing and using their characteristics for applications will lead to new technological breakthroughs across all engineering disciplines with energy, environmental, health, economic, and manufacturing issues relating to materials.

The dielectric study focuses on the complex permittivity of titrants; calcium copper titan ate (CCTO), mullet and some magnetic materials such as nickel zinc ferrite and yttrium iron garnet. Evolution studies of the microstructure and dielectric properties are made on these materials with the best composition with respect to frequency (40 Hz – 1 MHz in the low frequency region and 1 MHz – 1.8 GHz in the microwave region), measuring temperatures, sintering temperatures, density, porosity, grain size (from Nano to micron), charge carriers, conductivity and polarization. The dielectric responses are mainly due to interfacial and dipolar polarization. Analysis on the complex permittivity, impedance, modulus, cole-cole, tan delta and modeling are made in the search of finding the best capacitive materials tailored to specific applications as multilayer capacitors and materials for capacitive sensors.
