¿Qué aprenderé?

The BSc Medical and Health Sciences offers an integrated learning experience in an interdisciplinary environment, to produce graduates who are passionate about human health and medicine, and are equipped to embark on careers in the medical research or healthcare sectors. It has a strong focus on research and is taught by research-active academics in a wide range of disciplines spanning the biological and medical sciences. This course delivers up-to-date current knowledge in the field of biomedical, clinical and public health sciences. It encourages students to foster their analytical study skills and critical thinking, enabling them to research, develop and implement the innovative healthcare of the future.

Students take core modules in Years 1, 2 and 3, providing a solid grounding in the medical and health sciences. In Year 4, students undertake a substantial Research Project in a current research topic in the medical and health sciences. Additionally, each student can choose from a broad range of specialised modules in the final year, allowing them to design the individual composition of their degree.

The BSc Medical and Health Sciences opens up many career opportunities in Ireland and further afield in the medical, biosciences and health sciences arena. Graduates have a solid foundation to pursue Masters and Doctoral studies in a wide range of medical sciences areas, PhD research leading to careers in medical research, and for graduate entry to study Medicine, Physiotherapy, Audiology, Public Health, Occupational Health, Occupational Therapy and Speech & Language Therapy. Career prospects also include employment in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical devices industries, and in health promotion, education and policy.

Though not required for all programmes, SAT Subject Tests, Honours, Advanced Placement, and Early College Experience courses are considered, where they benefit the applicant. Band 1 Programmes - Minimum GPA: 3.7/4.0 in High School Diploma PLUS New SAT: Minimum 1470 or ACT: 32. Band 2 Programmes - Minimum GPA: 3.4/4.0 High School Diploma PLUS New SAT: Minimum 1380 or ACT: 29. Band 3 Programmes - Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 High School Diploma PLUS New SAT: Minimum 1140 or ACT: 23. Additional Requirements -Where Maths is required for a specific degree programme, a minimum score of 640 in SAT or ACT 28 in Maths component or AP 3 is required. Where a Lab Science subject is required for a specific degree programme, a minimum AP score of 3 is required in a Lab Science subject.
