Programme Aims

This programme aims to provide students with a broad knowledge and skill set in the area of energy and environmental science, enabling them to create new knowledge, develop innovative technologies and to conduct problem-focused research as an internationally successful scientist.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

Upon successful completion of this Programme, students should be able to:

1. design and conduct experiments relevant to energy and/or the environment, as well as to critically analyze and interpret the experimental results

2. develop new concepts and innovative approaches to solve environmental and/or energy related problems

3. apply their acquired analytical and problem solving skills in an open-minded creative way so that they can adapt to an international work environment in their later career, and to communicate and work efficiently in a team.

Applicants for admission to Doctor of Philosophy must: be a current MPhil student in the University who seeks transfer to PhD candidature; or hold a higher degree by research (or equivalent qualification) from a recognised university; or hold a taught Master’s degree (or equivalent qualification) from a recognised university; or hold a Bachelor’s degree with first class honours (or equivalent qualification) from a recognised university. English Language Requirements: TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 79 (internet-based test); or Overall band 6.5 in International English Language Testing (IELTS); or Other equivalent qualifications.

Para estudiantes internacionales

Applicants seeking admission to a research degree programme should satisfy the following minimum entrance requirements:

be a current MPhil student in the University who seeks transfer to PhD candidature; or
hold a higher degree by research (or equivalent qualification) from a recognised university; or
hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent qualification) from a recognised university; or
hold a Bachelor’s degree with first class honours (or equivalent qualification) from a recognised university.

Equivalent qualifications mentioned above include relevant professional qualifications or other scholarly achievements recognised by the University.

Applicants from an institution where the language of teaching is not English should satisfy the minimum English proficiency requirements specified by both the University and individual Colleges and Schools.

a minimum total score of 550 (paper-based test); or 79 (internet-based); or 59 (revised paper-delivered test; sum of Reading, Listening and Writing section scores) in TOEFL; or
a minimum IELTS score of 6.5; or
other test scores that may be regarded as equivalent to TOEFL 550 (paper-based) or 79 (Internet-based) or 59 (revised paper-delivered test).
