The Master of Nursing (MN) program at Dalhousie provides graduate students with the opportunity to learn practical skills and participate in research that makes a global impact.

Graduate education in nursing embodies a search for knowledge and encourages the examination of ideas and values. We aim to develop an attitude of commitment to expanding the scope of nursing knowledge and enhancing the quality of nursing practice. We do this in an educational environment that is responsive to the profession’s needs.

Graduate education prepares students who will have an advanced level of academic and clinical preparation and who will be leaders in advancing professional practice health related knowledge research uptake and system change.

Program options:

Upon entering the program MN students can choose from one of two program options:

  • Nurse practitioner: For students wishing to prepare for a clinical career as a licensed Nurse Practitioner
  • Professional stream: For students wishing to prepare for a leadership role

Program structure:

Full-time students are expected to complete the program in two years. Part-time students are expected to complete the program in no more than five years.

Annual Progress Reports are completed by the student and Associate Director Graduate Studies.

Seminars:

Scholars Seminars are held on a regular basis and master's students are required to attend these sessions consistently. Students are also encouraged to present at the sessions and to avail themselves of other clinical/scholarly opportunities as advertised.

Admission requirements for the MSc in Clinical Vision Science include a bachelor’s degree with honours or a bachelor’s degree with 4 years of undergraduate study from a recognized institution of higher education with a minimum of B average (GPA 3.0). English language requirement: Internet-based TOEFL (Academic iBT): 92; MELAB: 85; IELTS: 7; CAEL: 70 with no band score lower than 60; Dalhousie College of Continuing Education (CCE): A-; Pearson English Test PTE Academic: overall score of 65 and nothing below 54.
