The MBA with Specialization in Sustainability prepares future leaders to develop business strategies and operations in a world where businesses are being challenged to assume responsibilities that extend beyond meeting shareholder's financial expectations. The specialization is also designed to meet the growing demand for business leadership in non-profit and nongovernmental organizations. Graduates will also be well positioned to work in organizations with sustainability departments as well as have the ability to work in not-for-profit organizations.

Students are required to complete a minimum of ★60 in coursework, including a ★3 capping exercise.

Ethics Requirement:

The FGSR Academic Integrity and Ethics Training Requirement is fulfilled through registration in SEM 652.

Professional Development Requirement

Students in the MBA with Specialization in Sustainability fulfill the FGSR Professional Development Requirement through their program.

Length of Program:

Students enrolled in this program on a full-time basis can complete it in two calendar years. Alternatively, this course-based MBA program may be taken on a part-time basis.

The maximum time to complete the course-based MBA program as set by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research is six years.

Applicants are normally required to have completed a four-year baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent, from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta. An admission grade point average of 3 on most 4-point grading systems or B on most letter grading systems, based on your most recent two years of full-time study (or equivalent) is required. English Language Requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Total score of 90 with a score of at least 21 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based) or equivalent; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - 6.5, with at least 5.5 on each test band; Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) - Overall 70 with at least 60 on each subtest; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - 61 with a minimum band score of 60.

The Faculty's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution.

English language requirement:

  • A minimum TOEFL score of 100 with a minimum band score of 21 (internet-based) or equivalent.
  • Academic IELTS: 6.5, with at least 6.0 on each test band;
  • CAEL: overall 70 with at least 60 on each subtest;
  • PTE Academic: 61 with a minimum band score of 60.
