¿Qué aprenderé?

The Master of Arts Leisure Studies program is a thesis-based program with two main areas of research concentration: Therapeutic Recreation and Recreation Administration.

The curriculum focuses on leisure across the life course, theoretical concepts related to leisure, and the delivery of leisure services in diverse contexts. Since leisure is a significant component in the promotion of social, physical, psychological, and spiritual health, students in this program will graduate ready to apply their skills in a variety of settings.

Situated within the School of Health and Human Performance, the MA Leisure Studies program is perfectly positioned to provide students with interprofessional collaboration opportunities that emphasize the importance of leisure and its impact on health.

In your research, you may wish to focus on leisure and its relationship to

  • aging and youth
  • coping and adjustment
  • diverse populations
  • ethics
  • health
  • leisure delivery analysis
  • management and entrepreneurship

A diverse program of study:

The courses offered in the Master of Arts Leisure Studies program build on your knowledge and skills, while providing you with further opportunities to do in-depth research in an area of particular interest to you.

You will need to successfully complete minimum of 18 credit hours of course work and 12 credit hours for the thesis. On average, students can expect to take approximately 24 months of full-time work to complete the program. You may also take the program on a part-time basis.
