¿Qué aprenderé?

This is an integrated diploma/degree program offered by Red River College and The University of Winnipeg. The program develops the teaching and technical skills required for teaching business and information communication technology education programs in the public school systems.

Emphasis in this program is placed on developing your knowledge and skills in key areas – accounting, entrepreneurship, economics, marketing, management, information communication technologies, multimedia and animation– as well as in curriculum development and teaching methodology.

There are three options to complete this program: regular five-year Integrated pattern three-year After Degree pattern for those who have previously completed another undergraduate degree and a one-year Accelerated pattern for students who already hold a Bachelor of Education.

After you successfully complete the five-year program, you will receive a diploma in Business/Technology Teacher Education from Red River College as well as a Bachelor of Arts or Science and a Bachelor of Education from The University of Winnipeg.

SAMPLE COURSES – RED RIVER COLLEGE

BUSA-1305 Introduction to Business This course introduces students to fundamental theories, concepts and current trends in Canadian and global business environments. Topics will expose students to business frameworks, accounting, finance, economics, marketing, management, human resources and operations. Course discussion will focus on the examination of ethics, sustainability, political, legal and cultural issues as they relate to business and consumers. Emphasis is placed on relating course material relevant to events in the business world.

COMP-1234 Technology Essentials Technology Essentials introduces basic technologies that may be employed in business and educational environments. Business productivity software, basic website development, cloud-based computing, social media, mobile devices and apps, and other collaboration tools will be explored. Students will explore topics and outcomes as found in the ICT frameworks in the public school system.

SAMPLE COURSES – UNIVERSITY OF WINNIPEG

EDUC-2232(3) INTRODUCTION TO CONFLICT RESOLUTION IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS This course will present an introduction to the theory and methods of conflict resolution, with special emphasis on conflict in educational settings. The course will help students to understand the nature of human conflict, responses to conflict, and models for constructive ways to deal with conflict between and among individuals and groups. Topics will include anger, power, creative dimensions of conflict, and mediation. These will be examined from an interdisciplinary perspective.

EDUC-4401(3) JUST AND EFFECTIVE SCHOOLS This course is an inquiry into the meaning of just and effective schools as well as into the vision and process through which these schools are pedagogically and practically developed. The course focuses on educational issues such as inequities which may be eliminated through schools rather than reinforced the hidden and expressed curriculae of schools ethics and law in schooling schooling as a moral, civic and academic enterprise evaluation of students and schooling which teaches the importance of process along with content. A consistent theme of the course is schooling which facilitates and promotes personal social growth as well as academic development of students
