Earn an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science – Environmental Sustainability Degree (Specialization in Ecosystem Management) and an Environmental Technician Diploma at the same time with this four-year collaborative program from Lakehead University and Georgian College (Lakehead-Georgian).

The degree-diploma combination provides a theoretical and applied framework that complements the practical skills and scientific knowledge necessary to understand and monitor complex environmental systems. The specialization in ecosystem management will allow you to select additional topics complementing the environmental sustainability degree-diploma including, but not limited to:

forest ecology
plant taxonomy
field schools
environmental impact assessment
biogeography and conservation geography
soil science
environmental biomonitoring
geomatics
forest disturbance and recovery
ecological restoration

You will be provided with opportunities to develop advanced lab and field skills that will allow you to meet and adapt to the growing demands of a career in the environmental sciences.

The majority of courses that you will be required to complete for the environmental sustainability degree-diploma program will be science-based, including biology, geography, chemistry and geology, combined with specialized environmental and natural sciences courses and technology courses. Ontario high school students: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses including: English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U). A minimum final average, based on the best six Grade 12 U or M courses, of 75% is required.

Applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria to meet Georgians language proficiency requirements:

  • TOEFL Internet-based test (IBT): 89
  • TOEFL Paper-based test: 580
  • IELTS Academic only: 6.5
  • YELT: 1-5
  • TOEIC: 850
  • Graduate of Level 8 of Georgians GAAS - English for Academic Purposes: Completion of level 8 with 75% or higher
  • Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL): 60
  • Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE): 61
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): 175
