The Department of Earth Sciences in the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources is recognized worldwide as one of Canada's leading geoscience departments. Master’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B or equivalent) in the last two previous years of full time study (60 credit hours) is the minimum requirement for admission to the PhD program. English language proficiency requirements: IELTS (Academic module) (International English Language Testing System): 6.5 overall; Internet-based TOEFL (TOEFL-iBT) (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Overall score of 86; 20 in Reading; 20 in Writing; 20 in Listening; 20 in Speaking

Para estudiantes internacionales

The normal entry requirement is the equivalent of an MSc in earth sciences. Students with MSc degrees in related fields may be accepted by the Graduate Admissions Committee providing their planned degree program involves studies in the earth sciences.

Direct entry into the PhD program from an honours bachelor’s degree is permitted only for outstanding students (GPA well above 3.0 in the last two full years of undergraduate study). This route is at the discretion of the Graduate Admissions Committee and is intended only for those students that the committee considers adequately prepared for immediate PhD-level studies.

Students applying should have a GPA of 3.0 (B or equivalent) in the last two full years (60 credit hours) of study

English language proficiency requirements:

IAEP (Intensive Academic English Program): Pass Level 5/AEPUCE (Academic English Program for University and College Entrance) with a minimum of 65% overall

IELTS (Academic module) (International English Language Testing System): 6.5 overall

Internet-based TOEFL (TOEFL-iBT) (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Overall score of 86; 20 in Reading; 20 in Writing; 20 in Listening; 20 in Speaking

Pearson Test of English Academic: 61 overall
