Train to become a registered psychiatric health nurse and develop the competencies you need to provide holistic, client-centred care.Registered psychiatric nurses have played an important role in health care in Canada for more than 80 years and are the largest group of health care professionals in the mental health field.If you are interested in a professional career that offers challenges and opportunities within a complex, multidisciplinary health care environment, then a career as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) may be an excellent choice for you. Concentrated blocks of clinical practice experiences are strategically positioned throughout the program and are designed to maximize your learning and build on your theoretical knowledge.This full-time, 28-month program distributes coursework over 2.5 academic years. It is offered in two places: City Centre Campus in Edmonton and the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury in Ponoka.

Applicants must have a minimum overall average of 65 percent, with no course grade lower than 50 percent, in the following high school courses:

ELA 30-1
Biology 30
Chemistry 30 or Science 30
Mathematics 30-1, Mathematics 30-2 or Mathematics 31
One subject from Group A, B, C or D course

Applicants must be 20 years of age or older and have been out of full-time high school at least one year by the beginning of the intake term. Applicants must have a minimum overall average of 65 percent, with no course grade lower than 50 percent, in the following high school courses:

Chemistry 30 or Science 30
Mathematics 30-1, Mathematics 30-2 or Mathematics 31

Applicants with nine to 23 university-level credits must also present a minimum Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants with 24 or more university-level credits will be considered under Previous Post-Secondary Work.

A minimum of 24 university-level credits with a minimum Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and must have completed the required core courses listed under the Regular or Mature Admission category.

IELTS–Academic: Minimum overall band score of 7.0 and a minimum score of 6.5 in Reading and Writing, 7.0 in Speaking and 7.5 in Listening; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (Internet-Based Test (iBT)): Minimum total score of 98 and a minimum score of 21 in Reading, 27 in Writing and Listening, and 26 in Speaking; Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): Minimum overall band score of 80 and minimum scores of 70 in Reading, Writing, and Speaking and 80 in Listening; PTE – Academic: Minimum overall score of 68 and a minimum score of 61 in Reading, 71 in Speaking and Writing, and 75 in Listening.
