¿Qué aprenderé?

The Medical Office Assistant program gives students the knowledge and skills necessary to provide administrative support to medical professionals in hospitals, physicians and specialists’ offices, as well as any health authority in the province.

Working with industry veteran instructors in a small class setting, you will develop competence and confidence in medical documentation and terminology, clinical office procedures, billing, scheduling, business skills, computer applications, and medical software so that you can efficiently manage the demands of the front desk in any medical facility. A six-week work practicum placement will give you an opportunity to practice and refine your skills in real-world situations and your participation in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops will provide you a foundation of employability and essential skills that today’s employer demands.

Strong English communication skills, computer proficiency, and keyboarding speed are essential to your success in this program. You will need these skills to perform patient billing, manage electronic records, transcribe medical orders, and prepare medical reports and correspondence. An ability to maintain high levels of accuracy across all electronic communication and data entry, while meeting industry acceptable time standards is also require.

Who it is for:

Individuals who are proficient in basic computer usage, use proper keyboarding technique (home row method), and have high levels of accuracy in electronic communication and data entry.

Continuous Program Improvement:

MITT continuously reviews and improves programs to maintain relevance in the workplace and effective learning experiences for all students. Although the institution strives to have the website reflect the most current version of all programs, MITT reserves the right to change the program curriculum as necessary to meet industry and accreditation requirements. As a result, course information and learning outcomes may be adjusted prior to the scheduled course start date.
