¿Qué aprenderé?

The Medical Office Assistant program gives students the knowledge and skills necessary to provide administrative support to medical professionals in hospitals, physicians and specialists’ offices, as well as any health authority in the province.

Working with industry veteran instructors in a small class setting, you will develop competence and confidence in medical documentation and terminology, clinical office procedures, billing, scheduling, business skills, computer applications, and medical software so that you can efficiently manage the demands of the front desk in any medical facility. A six-week work practicum placement will give you an opportunity to practice and refine your skills in real-world situations and your participation in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops will provide you a foundation of employability and essential skills that today’s employer demands.

Strong English communication skills, computer proficiency, and keyboarding speed are essential to your success in this program. You will need these skills to perform patient billing, manage electronic records, transcribe medical orders, and prepare medical reports and correspondence. An ability to maintain high levels of accuracy across all electronic communication and data entry, while meeting industry acceptable time standards is also require.

Who it is for:

Individuals who are proficient in basic computer usage, use proper keyboarding technique (home row method), and have high levels of accuracy in electronic communication and data entry.

Requerimiento de entrada

High school diploma (or expected completion within 45 days of the program start date), or equivalent. Applicants must also meet the program-specific requirements, including:

  • Senior level Math with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.
  • Senior level First Language Literature with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.

English language requirement:

  • IELTS (Academic) (International English Language Testing System): 6.5 overall, no band less than 5.5
  • PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic): 58
  • TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based): Overall score of 86, with no less than 20 in each component
  • CAEL CE & CAEL Online (Canadian Academic English Assessment): 60
  • Cambridge English Advanced Certificate (C1): Scale Score of 180 / Grade of C
