CapU’s School of Legal Studies has an excellent reputation and our graduates are in demand. We are also the only university in Western Canada to offer a degree program for paralegals.

You'll take core legal studies courses together with general and legal electives. Whether your ultimate goal is to build a valuable and rewarding career as a paralegal, to become a lawyer, to work in other law-related professions, or to do graduate work, this program is your best option.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate the ability to examine various legal problems by identifying appropriate areas of the law and sources to consult in commencing the process of legal analysis.
Demonstrate competence in researching legislation, case law and other secondary legal materials.
Summarize legal research findings in appropriate legal formats with clear and compelling analysis and conclusions.
Demonstrate competence in effective communication in legally relevant contexts such as presentations of case summaries, interviewing clients, and group presentations.
Prepare, draft and produce legal documents, including pleadings and other court documents, wills, corporate documents, or real estate documents.
Demonstrate an awareness of and ability to identify legal issues in a broad range of areas through an exposure to a variety of legal subjects.

High school graduation. English Studies 12 (C+) or English 12 (C+) or English First Peoples 12 (C+). For students with previous post-secondary experience, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a scale of 4.33) or equivalent

High school graduation or equivalent education or experience
High school with an 80% average through Grades 11 and 12 (in English Studies 12 or English 12 or English First Peoples 12 and at least four other academic courses)

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): 83 (internet-based score), 560 (paper-based score).
ELA (English Language Assessment Test): 145
Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5 overall and no one scores less than 6
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment Test): 70
PTE (Pearson Test of English - Academic): 56
Capilano University EAP 100 and 101 with a minimum mark of B+.
