Why study Psychology?

Psychology is the study of how people think, feel, and behave. Psychologists seek to understand how we learn and grow, how we develop unique personalities and identities, and how we respond to the world around us. This program covers a broad range of topics, from infant, childhood, and adolescent development, to aging and memory, to language, speech, and culture — plus much more.

This major can also be taken as part of a BA Honors degree.

Why study Psychology at Augustana?

At Augustana, a degree in Psychology will allow you to become well versed in psychological topics. You will be able to understand and use different worldviews, concepts, language, and major theories of the discipline to account for psychological phenomena. This major also offers the ability to pursue a unique, embedded certificate in Community Mental Health. Through this certificate, you will be trained in the principles of mental health, including psychological well-being and neuropsychological disorders, and learn about the types of interventions that are designed to support those with mental illness.

This major is taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree. Psychology can also be taken as part of a Bachelor of Science degree. The BA program does not require the same supporting courses in the other sciences as the BSc program.

English Language Requirements: A score of at least 90 on the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - Internet-based) with no less than 21 on each band, A score of at least 6.5 on the IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) with no band less than 6.0 (see Note 4); A score of at least 61 on the PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) with no less than 60 in each communicative skill.
