¿Qué aprenderé?

Students can learn French, Spanish, German, or Mi’kmaq in StFX Modern Languages, courses that examine the relationship between language and culture. The department offers studies in language instruction, culture, effective writing and literature across the centuries. All StFX Modern Languages professors hold doctorate degrees and teach small classes an ideal intimate and personalized environment for language learning. You can pursue exciting opportunities through the Service Learning program-a one-of-a-kind option for students to put classroom knowledge to effective use in the community and around the globe. The department also offers a French proficiency certificate if you want to have your competency in French officially recognized on your transcript. Since French is an official language in Canada, being bilingual can increase potential job opportunities after graduation.A student may take an advanced major in French by completing 36 credits in FREN (excluding FREN 111/112), including FREN 312(215) and at least 21 other credits at the 300- or 400-level. Students registered in the advanced major program in French are required to do FREN 492, a three credit senior seminar comprising a thesis in French of approximately 4,000 words.

Students can submit predicted or anticipated results for early fall admission and scholarship purposes.For high school students the minimum admission requirements include an overall average of 70 percent in Grade 12 with no grade below 65 percent in each of the required subjects Admissions to limited enrolment programs is competitive meeting the minimum average does not guarantee admission.Please note students who are currently in grade 12 applying for early admission must have the program requirements in grade 11 and be registered in the program prerequisites in grade 12 to be eligible for an early offer Otherwise offers will be made after receipt of final first term grade 12 transcript.
