Secondary years

Moreton Bay College has a long tradition of academic success. Our secondary learning programme is designed to prepare our student’s for tomorrow’s world. We strive to equip the girls to be active global citizens in a modern society that demands collaboration, problem solving, adaptability and entrepreneurship.

Academic programme

Achieving the best educational outcome for each individual student is always the main objective for our teachers. Our aim is to furnish them with the knowledge and skills to pursue studies in their chosen field. Over 90% of graduates go on to further studies. To deliver these results, our academic programme draws on current educational, psychological, physiological and related fields of research.

YEAR 11 AND 12

The curriculum offering for Senior Secondary has been devised to provide the widest range of possible choices for students. At this stage of their schooling students choose subjects that suit their skills and abilities and complement their future goals. Students who achieve a set amount of learning, at the set standard, in a set pattern, while meeting literacy and numeracy requirements will be issued with a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). The QCE is issued to eligible students when they meet all the requirements, either at the completion of Year 12, or after they have left school.

ATAR pathway

MBC offers Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) General senior subject syllabuses in Year 11 and 12. Results in General subjects contribute to the award of a QCE and may contribute to an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) calculation. Typically, it is expected that most students will complete these courses across Years 11 and 12. All subjects build on the P–10 Australian Curriculum.

Non ATAR pathways

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships

Students may commence a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship in the senior years of schooling at MBC. This involves TAFE study combined with school-based study and on-the-job training.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) modules undertaken through TAFE and private providers may gain credit towards a selection rank as well as the QCE.
